Rick, Don, Charlie & Jerry

Empty Stage

AKA Rick (and re-arrange the other 3 at will - but Rick goes first), The Vulgar Boatmen (the original with that name - seriously!), Roy G. Biv and so on...
The members were Rick Denton (on piano, sax, vocals and - not on this track - guitar),Me (on guitar), Charlie Riggs (on Bass) and Jerry Tobolski (on Drums).  In the mid-70's, for several years, I both lived and played with Rick & Charlie. The last couple of years before we split, we teamed up with Jerry, a very jazz-oriented drummer. To say we were eclectic is putting it mildly. Our set list at times ranged from Waylon Jennings to Pharoah Saunders. I believe there weren't too many groups covering that ground at that time. I have a few recordings of us, though nothing with original material.

On this track "Love Song" by Ramsey Lewis, my playing isn't as rough as some of the others, which is why I included it. It was recorded Oct. 9, 1976 at a venue called Juicy John Pinks in Dekalb Il.
